Born into slavery William ‘bill’ Traylor spent his life after the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation working as a farm laborer and then shoe maker. Homeless and in his 80’s he started painting. His work visually striking, simple yet powerful. Today regarded as one of the most important artists of the 20th centaury.
Traylor’s vibrant imagery and colour palette inspire and compose the patterns created for our Autumn-Winter 2020 collection.
